A system for conceptual and logical database design

چکیده
The general scheme of a system for a conceptual and logical database design is described. The database management systems, becoming a convenient way of creating a database, are frequently used as a new mode of access to data, but not as a means of common possession of them. This is due to the great importance of database structure. The principal consequences of an unsuitable structure are the unmeasurable expenses for its modification which must be realized as soon as the inconsistency of this structure is found. Hence, one important factor in the exploration of database is the existence of a methodology and a software which can be used for automation of the database schema design. The proposed system consists of two phases : conceptual design and logical design (see Figure). In the conceptual design phase there are the following stages: the information requirements analysis, views conceptual design and views integration. The information requirements analysis is the first stage of the database methodology. During this stage the designer collects the user's information requirements concerning those parts of the organization which are to be automatized by means of a database applications, and formalizes them into descriptions of data, operations and restrictions. The information requirements analysis is related to the elaboration of:

Designing a logical data model of athletes' hospital information management system based on international standards
Background and purpose: Today, hospital care, relying on the health record system, has received more attention than before. Considering the diversity of data in these systems, the design of standard conceptual and logical models by service providers will play an important role in their success. Therefore, this research was conducted with the aim of designing a logical data model of the hospital...
متن کاملExtending the Qualitative Trajectory Calculus Based on the Concept of Accessibility of Moving Objects in the Paths
Qualitative spatial representation and reasoning are among the important capabilities in intelligent geospatial information system development. Although a large contribution to the study of moving objects has been attributed to the quantitative use and analysis of data, such calculations are ineffective when there is little inaccurate data on position and geometry or when explicitly explaining ...
متن کاملLogical Design of Generalizations in Object-relational Databases
The richer data models of object relational databases opens many more options for the logical design of a database schema increasing the complexity of logical database design enormously. Focusing on generalization constructs of conceptual models we explore the performance implications of the various design alternatives for mapping generalizations into the schema of an object-relational database...
متن کاملWAND: A CASE Tool for Data Warehouse Design
The statistic reports about data warehouse project failures state that a major cause lies in the absence of a structured design methodology. In this direction, our research is aimed at defining the basic steps required for a correct design. The goal of this demonstration is to present the main features of WAND, the prototype CASE tool we have implemented to support our methodology. WAND assists...
متن کاملSubtyping : conceptual and logical issues
Subtyping is an important feature of semantic approaches to conceptual schema design and, more recently, object-oriented database design. However the relational model does not directly support subtyping, and CASE tools for mapping conceptual to relational schemas typically provide only very weak support for mapping subtypes. This paper surveys some of the main issues related to conceptual speci...
